Why the world should use soy wax candles and ditch paraffin
Candles have been used for centuries to provide light, warmth, and ambiance in our homes. However, with the rise of concerns about indoor air quality, it is important to consider the type of candle we burn in our homes. Step forward soy wax candles!
Traditional paraffin candles are made from petroleum-based wax, which can release harmful chemicals into the air when burned. Stains and smoke also get everywhere – walls, under picture frames, and in our curtains and furniture. Soy candles, on the other hand, offer many benefits over traditional paraffin candles.
Here at takegoodcare we sell soy wax candle gifts in an effort to reduce the amount of harmful toxins being pumped into our atmosphere, and your lungs. And we like to think this sustainable solution is another small step to helping the planet.
What are soy wax candles?
Soy wax candles are made from soybeans, which are a renewable resource. It is a vegetable-based wax, unlike paraffin wax, which is derived from crude oil. Soy wax is therefore biodegradable and non-toxic, making it a more environmentally friendly choice than paraffin.
Difference between soy wax and paraffin candles
One of the biggest benefits of soy wax is that it burns cleaner than paraffin. Paraffin candles release soot and other harmful chemicals into the air when burned, which can cause health problems for people with respiratory issues. Soy wax, on the other hand, produces little to no soot, making it a healthier choice for both you and the environment.
Soy is perhaps the cleanest type of candle you can buy, and it burns longer than paraffin wax, which means you can enjoy your takegoodcare soy candle for a longer period of time. This is because soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax, and burns at a cooler temperature. This cooler burn also means the candles don’t get as hot as paraffin alternatives, reducing the risk of burns or fire hazards.
In addition to being better for your health and the environment, soy wax also offers a wider range of scents than paraffin candles. Here at TGC our scents include:
- Neroli, lemon, orange in the Earth candle
- Pine needles and eucalyptus in the Relax candle
- Bergamont, touches of coriander, and lavender in the Thrive candle
The reason we can lock is more scents is because soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax, so it can hold more fragrance oil. Soy also has a more natural scent, which means it can enhance the fragrance of the essential oils and other natural scents used in our candles.
Consistent burn
The candles available to buy at takegoodcare all benefit from a consistent burn that comes from the soy wax properties. They have a lower melting point, which results in the wax steadily melting across the surface. Cheap, paraffin candles burn fast and you get those annoying holes in the candle as a result.
